There have been more ports of the original Donkey Kong than any other game (citation needed). The reason for this being is because Nintendo doesn't actually own the code for Donkey Kong. As such, many game consoles have ports of this title, like the Atari 2600, Coleco Vision, Commodore 64, Nintendo Entertainment System and even the Nintendo 64, in the case of Donkey Kong 64's Frantic Factory cabinet. But what are the differences between the cabinet and these ports? Discuss. (If you want to.)

Is that the reason? I thought the reason was because Nintendo didn't yet have a home console of their own or hadn't started being exclusive with it. After all, DK Jr. got ported to a bunch of platforms too. On the topic though, there's a good couple of posts on Supper Mario Broth comparing sprites form different ports of the game. There's one for Mario and Pauline, I thought there was one for DK too but I can't find it.
