Donkey Kong's an influential game, and sometimes it influences other games. This thread is about that.
In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker there's an entire level inspired by arcade Donkey Kong, which is pretty neat. The game also uses the hammer power-up theme when you use the Super Pickax, and that's throughout the whole game.

I always thought that Captain Toad would have made a good mini-Mario game. It seems ready-made for the format.

Ah, the old "barrels rolling down some girders" reference. I noticed one in Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Aang: The Burning Earth. It's inside the Fire Nation drill. You can see it in this video at 3:45.
There's a similar thing apparently in Asterix & Obelix XXL 2, but I can't be bothered scrubbing through all the German Let's Players to find it.

Conker's Big Reunion makes a blatent refrence to it when Conker is in the brewery, heading up some slanted platforms with barrels coming down. I'm a little lazy to try and find an actual game play video currently, but it's there.

I distinctly remember an area from Wallace & Gromit in Project Zoo where you're running up some platforms while a chimp (or some manner of primate) throws barrels at you. It's been a while since I played the game, but I got a kick out of it at the time. I'll be looking for video of it on YouTube, but I felt like going ahead and making this post.
Oh, and this is a bit of a stretch, but does anyone else remember that bit of the Castle area in Resident Evil 4 where you're running up one of the towers and a ganado keeps pulling that switch to drop barrels down onto the platform you're using? Could be a coincidence, but it reminded me of Donkey Kong.
EDIT: Okay, I looked up a video, and wow. The bit I was talking about in Project Zoo is much more blatantly Donkey Kong than I remembered. It's pretty much a full-blown 3D remake of the first board!!
As for Resident Evil 4, I played through it again recently via the Xbox One rerelease, so I remembered the part in question well. I was just lazy and didn't feel like looking up a video before. But here's one now:
I've never heard of this LPer before. Please feel free to ignore the commentary. It just happens to show the room in question.
