This is my favourite thing. One of the drone Kongs in SMRPG has a name that in Japanese is a visual pun on Donkey Kong, and his Psychopath text is something like "Don't confuse me for someone else!"
What about the DK Jr clones in the audience of Double Dash, or the Diddy-like monkeys in Mario Kart Arcade GP? Good stuff.

Too bad Pauline missed out on a playable appearance. Nice in-depth video, and he did well with identifying the music tracks included. I had some trouble with that when I wrote this, plug plug. The landing page/games list of which appears to be broken. What a shambles, unlike this fair site.

Is it confirmed to be touch screen free? Link?
With no touch screen though, I can see Nintendo deciding that the series can't work and has no future. NST will be making updates and paid level packs for Super Mario Run. Employees keep leaving and the studio closes. Nintendo gives up on Western development and burns Retro to the ground. Everything sucks.

When's the last time an established character or race that wasn't a Toad showed up in mainline Mario?? There's no way DK would be part of the cast in that way. We don't even get Wario showing up apart from the SM64DS anomaly. In this world DK would have less games and less prominence than Wario, and if we're talking about sports and Party, Junior is a more likely choice than Senior. Senior would also be played villainous more often.

Following Baby Mario would add a ton of modern sports and Kart titles, not to mention Yoshi's New Island *shudder*. So no, I am against this. YIDS is the only one with more concrete connections to the DKGirder core anyway, with its Snapjaw-alikes and vine climbing.

Well, it kind of did get a revival at the same time, in DK94 for Game Boy. So still assuming DKC never happened, Donkey Kong would be a very closely Mario-adjacent puzzle-platformer with a lower profile, a Nintendo C- or D-lister rather than the B-lister it is. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if the MvDK series was all that happened, there was no Countries, 64, Konga, Jungle Beat, Paon games, or Returns. Just endless MvDK sequels and that's it. Junior would still be showing up in Mario sports games though.

It's well worth reading Mark Mazzei's article on this at MundoRare. But hey, at least we got Sabre Wulf GBA.

Rare indeed. I wonder what tiny pub in which backwater village still has one of these machines.

Ah, the old "barrels rolling down some girders" reference. I noticed one in Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Aang: The Burning Earth. It's inside the Fire Nation drill. You can see it in this video at 3:45.
There's a similar thing apparently in Asterix & Obelix XXL 2, but I can't be bothered scrubbing through all the German Let's Players to find it.

Is that the reason? I thought the reason was because Nintendo didn't yet have a home console of their own or hadn't started being exclusive with it. After all, DK Jr. got ported to a bunch of platforms too. On the topic though, there's a good couple of posts on Supper Mario Broth comparing sprites form different ports of the game. There's one for Mario and Pauline, I thought there was one for DK too but I can't find it.
